Portland, OR area RV parks
I just returned from a stay at the Jantzen Beach RV Park only a few minutes north of Portland. I can’t recommend this place. First I was promised one of the pull-through sites that looked like it had easy access, but when I arrived those sites were full but I was given a “double site” instead. This is a Good Sam 10/10/9.5 rated park. Two sites back to back that looked on the map to be acceptable. I’m usually pretty cautious about the sites I am given but this time I agreed without looking. Big mistake. When I pulled away from the park office I immediately had to make a tight 90 degree left followed by an equally tight 90 degree right. Straight ahead was the road to my site. The road narrowed to about 12′. My assigned site was a left turn with a light pole on the left side and a power box and water riser on the right. No widening or curving of the site itself. I had to go in halfway, back up, and then forward just clearing my electrical pedestal by 10″. Barely enough to open the cover. I was the largest rig in the park. Lots of easy maneuvering 5th wheels. Pulling out was just as bad. Drag the drives over the lawn in order to miss the Lexus parked across from me. Drive over the curb at the exit just to get out. Even though I had Google Earthed the park before making the reservation I wasn’t prepared for the change-up. Shame on me, lesson learned.

Wow, it sounds like they really did not do you any favors. We have stayed there 2 or 3 times over the years and never had any similar issues. Maybe we were there during less busy times or maybe we were just lucky but we never had any issues getting in our out. We are only 40′ but with a solid axle we don’t have nearly the turning radius of the newer coaches so I don’t know which is more important.
You can’t be that park for location, however. I am sorry to hear about your experience. Glad you got out unscathed!

My experience may have been unique and I admit I was upset at being given a site different than the one promised. When I stopped at the office to sign in it should have been obvious what I was driving. The bus was literally 4′ from her window. I managed to squeeze into the site assigned but it was not pretty. My warning is simply get the site you reserve and I blame myself for not walking back to inspect the site I was given.

I know I won’t have this problem at LVM. They have plenty of shrubs to cover my errant wheel tracks!

There are limited opportunities in Portland. I have stayed several times at Fairview RV which is near PDX. It’s a large park but limited for big rigs. The area just behind and to the right of check in is where you want to be.
