Pocono Raceway
Has anyone boondocked at Pocono raceway?
There is an SCCA race this weekend that I’m going to and I can’t get ahold of anyone at the track to ask if I can just boondock somewhere. The event details says that nobody can stay in the infield overnight, but there are large lots outside of it.
I know they have a seasonal campground in there that I might be able to reserve, but there are some policies that will make it difficult with the event timing and quiet hours, and I think we might be too long with the trailer anyway.

I was able to reach someone in the “Track Operations” department with a phone number found in the terms and conditions during the camping spot checkout. I purchased a camping spot and they are putting me up in the Driver’s lot instead of the normal camp ground.

I’m sure once track management heard “Liberty Coach” they immediately put you in the “Driver’s Coach Lot”.

They wanted to park me right on the start/finish line to let everyone know there was a Liberty on the premises, but I told them I’d rather just park in the Driver/Owner lot so that’s where they put me.
In all seriousness, they told me on the phone they were going to put me in the Driver/Owner lot. When I got there, the guard at the gate told me he was sending me to the D/O lot, but where he directed me to is the same lot as seasonal camping, so I don’t know if there is a difference. I guess it’s a D/O lot on NASCAR weekend and a seasonal camping lot the rest of the time.
Infield RV Park – Pocono Raceway – The Tricky Triangle
They were full hookup sites, 30/50A, 20’x60′ advertised, more like 20×70. I just fit with a 45-foot coach and an 18-foot deck open trailer. The septic line is all the way up against the trees, so you’d better have a few extensions if you want to dump. Even the 50-amp was a reach with the cord reel. I was only there 2 nights so it didn’t matter. It’s $60/night, 2-night minimum and a $5 service fee. They had me go in the outbound tunnel at Gate 1 since the guard said there’s no way I was fitting in the inbound tunnel. The width was very tight, probably less than a foot clearance on either side at the tires.
The lot was at maybe 10-20% capacity, so plenty of room to spread out. I told them a buddy with a truck/trailer was staying with me and nobody gave him a hard time parking in a spot next to me.
Saturday night there was an event just outside of the track, directly upwind, where they lit 10,000 lanterns and released them into the sky… I could have done without that, as they were still smoldering when hundreds of them rained down on the lot. We were catching them before they landed on the cars. Luckily none of them landed on the bus as I had no way to get to the roof. Somehow they had the whole infield cleaned up of them by the next morning and the D/O lot was clean by the time we finished racing Sunday.
The racing was excellent. The course has a TON of grip and was a nice long lap for an autocross course. NEPA SCCA races there 3 times a year, and there are a bunch of other organizations as well. EMRA was there on Saturday. The grounds were very well groomed and had a relaxed atmosphere. I’ll definitely be going back with the family next year, on a weekend where there is no “Night Lights” event.
