  • First snowstorm for coach

Posted by Per on May 1, 2016 at 8:51 pm

Well, not really a snow storm, but it snowed pretty good when we arrived at the Ruidoso Motorcoach Resort in Ruidoso, NM. Outside temps on the dash showed 31 degrees, and the road slippery warning light came on a couple of times. This is gorgeous resort. It is sitting on top of a ridge, just opened in November. Elevation is about 8000 feet, and they have a pond where elk gather in the evening. 29 spaces with full hook-ups of course. There is a Country Club nearby, and you get admitting priviledges when you stay at the resort. I assume they have a golf couse there, if you are into that kind of thing. Highly recommend the resort if you are up this way.

Thats great to here Per, (new resort). Sounds wonderful, we have 2 lots up there (vacant lots) we love Ruidoso. Great weather all summer and great horse racing until Labor day ending with the All American Futurty.

Haven’t seen the elk yet, but 11 deer walked right in front of the coach as we watched them through the windshield.

please add this resort to the resorts map on this webpage. Some of us are old and tend to forget what we read.

Sounds like a nice place Per,

We’ll be in Hobbs, NM and Santa Fe, NM for Habitat builds in a week, but it looks like both locations are more than three hours away from Ruidoso, so it doesn’t look like we’ll make it over there this time around.

Thanks for the recommendation Per. We are headed that way sometime this summer and will schedule reservations as soon as I can pin down a date.

    Per and Margrit,

What a beautiful area (looked at it on google maps). It is definitely on our list to visit on our way back West (sometime this year). 8,000 ft. elevation in the summer sounds like heaven!

I want to go back to Roswell again and check on the aliens.

Had a small cabin in Upper Canyon years ago (late 70 and 80’s) and loved it. Started sking there in 76 before they started building the Inn Of The Mountain Gods. Ex Wife was Ski Patrol up on the mountain Ski Apache. Hadn’t been up there in about 20 years. Back then it was a sleepy little Village and wonder if it’s still the same. Wish I still had the place.

We went out to the Inn of the Mountain Gods today, and they totally rebuilt the place. It is now a big casino/hotel–even have a parking garage. Margrit and I couldn’t recognize the place we visited some 27 years ago. We also checked out the Rainmaker Country Club–having dinner there tonight. Resort owners are members, so resort guests get Country Club priviledges as well, so if you are a golfer, the golf course looks very nice.

Resort owners are Jimmy and Lisa Zachry, very nice people who is awaiting delivery of their Prevost from Marathon in Grand Prairie. I let them know PC is a great place for info on Prevosts.

I sent in the information, so it should show up shortly. We have deer showing up every night, and this morning there were 16. One is laying in the shade about 50 feet from the coach as I’m typing this.

We were there last summer. Great place to dry camp if you’re passing through the area. I even got lucky at the tables. So it was like getting paid to stay 🙂

Spending the week here at Ruidoso Motorcoach Resort. Camping out with the Newell Gurus. Met a bunch of nice folks and made more friends. No snow this time, but plenty of afternoon thunderstorms!

Per, I’m jealous wish I was there. Great place in summer time you cant beat the weather. And yes those afternoon storms do come regular. I have 2 lots up in Alto just past airport road on the right. Great views I can see airport lights at nite fall. We ran Quarter horses there at Ruidoso Downs for several years. Some of the best racing in the country and home of the 3 million dollar All American Futurity on Labor Day. It makes for a great way to spend the afternoon if you enjoy horse racing. Enjoy….
