  • Heading East North East

In a few weeks, we will be departing from St. Pete, FL, to return to NH. We have no timetable for this trip and plan to make frequent stops. We still have an unused 3 day pass for Mickey Mouse and will make the Orlando area our first stop. Of course, I can flip the pages in the Big Rig Book for accomodations along the way. However, word of mouth is worth a lot, too. Therefore, I am soliciting your suggestions to go from Orlando to the East Coast and all the way up to New Hampshire.

Awaiting your replies with great interest!
    Thanks and Cheers,
    Ronald

I suggest you stop over in the Gulf Shores, AL area at beautiful Bella Terra, the site of Oysterfest 2011 and the upcoming Michael & Vita’s Excellent Oysterfest Adventure 2013. http://www.bellaterrarvresort.com/

Also, Stone Mountain Park in the Atlanta area has a nice campground/RV Park that provides easy access to all the activities there. http://stonemountainpark.com/

If you do come through the Atlanta area, let us know and we’ll try to hook up for a visit!

    Ron and Gabi,

Here is something counter to conventional thinking. Avoid I-95 up the east coach. Make the return more relaxing by making an arc to avoid traffic intense roads.

Head north on I-75, then jog over I-40 to I-81 to I-84 into NH or any other route off of I-81 that is convenient. You will drive more miles, but as long as you have time, you can avoid the stress related to the east coast metropolitan areas. Atlanta is the only heavy traffic area and we just jump into the HOV lane and avoid the dicing and slicing of the regular traffic lanes making the path through Atlanta pretty simple. Along the way you can get to meet a lot of Prevost owners if you choose. I cannot recommend any specific campgrounds because we haven’t used any along that route, but a look in the Big Rigs book will help there.

When we travel we look for the flying J rest stops they have ample room to park in the front area as well as a dump station and fresh water fill. Get there RV card and it’s only $50 to dump and you save $2/gal. Showers are very clean (we have an entertainer with no shower on board)

I agree with Rte 81. Avoid the GW bridge at all costs. They will charge you a $650 toll if you are in tow $13/axle. I tried to reason with the attendant that we look like a bus, drive like a bus so we are a bus so how about just $200. He didn’t buy it and demanded $650
