Frontier Town – Adirondacks
If you are headed to Canada on I-87 or staying in the Adirondacks, I can highly recommend a new state-run campground (~3 years old).
“Frontier Town” is right off exit 29 (Keen Valley / Lake Placid exit). They have a dry loop, and an electric-only loop, and a very impressive equestrian area with electric. Most of the sites we inspected would easily handle our rigs. Staff were incredibly nice. The electric loop was booked solid the week after memorial day but the empty equestrian area can be booked sans-horses as an overflow.
Best part is that our favorite brewery (Paradox) just built a state of the art facility and tasting complex within a short walk of the campground.
We love Scaroon Manor (at exit 27) because it is tiny and quiet and is on the lake – but it has no electric. We almost moved to Frontier Town during the heat wave.

My parents took our young family on an annual summer vacation to the Adirondacks many times in the 1950s. Frontier Town was one of many theme parks in the area. The masked robbers that stopped the train would check passengers for gold teeth. Then when they were caught the robber was put on a huge dunking contraption like a teeter totter and dunked into the lake over and over. His last time dunked he would come up with a fish in his mouth. Shoot outs, bandits falling off the 2nd story of the saloon. As a youth, it was a lot of fun and the memories are still here 60 plus years later.

You would cry if you saw frontier town now. The big A-frame building is abandoned and only the general store complex along RT9 seems to exist and is a big flea market on the weekends.
The brewery under construction in the news clip looks like this now.
