2012 Jeep Wrangler Tow Setup 6 Speed Manual
So it took me a couple of days, but, I finished my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport Tow Setup. After reading all I could here and on Jeep forums here is my setup.
NSA RV Products Ready Brute Elite Tow Bar – Comes with everything you need to have brakes and breakaway capabilities…No “fancy dancy” electrical controls here on brakes. Level experience needed to install …. none
Currie Enterprises Tow Plate – Acts as S Skid Plate for jeep if you need one. Need to be handy with tools and understand concept of install. Must not be afraid to cut some small extra material off frame.
Cool Tech Wiring Harness – Plug and Play, Great quality, Good Instructions. Wiring 101 basic understanding required.
I did this in the evening as parts arrive.
Installation times:
Install Tow Plate – 4 hours – Need an assistant it is not light but not heavy.
Install Tow Bar – 3 hours – Routing the line for both brake and brakeaway needs some thought. I elected to order extra cable from NSA so I could house ready brake brake-away in a sheathed cable rather then how NSA products standard install would be.
Install Tow Harness – 3 hours – Need an assistant. Use an electrical fish to snake line through frame. Plug and play, great quality, fast shipping. If it does not work you did something wrong.
Tow procedures
Jeep is Manual 6 Speed
No need for key in ignition, steering column has no lock
No Battery Cut-off or disconnect
Transfer case in Neutral, Jeep in gear (5th), Parking brake off, start towing
