Jeep GC
Posted by Tim on September 24, 2015 at 6:35 amWe’re thinking about buying a ’15 Jeep GC to tow behind our eventual coach.
Any other Jeep GC owners out there towing the updated GC model (2001-2015) who care to share their experiences … pros/cons?

I believe the acceptability of the GC for towing is related to the transfer case. I am not up to speed on the particulars, but at one time one style of transfer case was not towable, while the other style allowed unlimited towing.
The owners manual is the definitive answer.

We have seven years experience towing the one in our signature. It has been as simple and trouble free as could be. No battery cut offs or fuses to pull. No limitations on speed or distance. Our vintage was offered with two different transfer cases. So we got the one for the purpose, it’s called quadra drive II. New ones may use different words now, but a knowledgeable salesman should steer you into the right one. It has been all good.
I had the dealer install an extra bulb inside the tail light lense and run some standard flat four wire to the front so that we were not using any jeep electronics to run the tail/brake lights.
Also the odometer does not count the towed miles.

We tow a 2013 GC and have since new. No issues at all. It MUST be a 4×4. Best part is you pull the key out when finished and place it in the bus. Steering wheel no longer locks.
Buying a 2016 soon as we love the 2013 so much..

T&B,
So no issues with your new GC picking up rocks from the coach damaging the paint/windshield?
Also, what braking system & tow bar did you go with? I assume the base plate is specific to the GC.

I have towed Jeeps for over 20 years. At present tow a 2015 Jeep GC Summit. Very easy to tow. That model is only offered with one type of 4X4 set up (the 2 wheel drive is NOT Towable four down). Just follow exact directions in owners manual and everything works. We have towed this over 15K this year.
We use Blue Ox base plate and tow bar without problems. We have the Air Force one system for tow braking going down the road. I prefer the M&G system, but is does not fit into the Jeep.

Tim:
We have towed a 2014 GC since new with blue ox tow bar set up with Air Force One brake system. 4 wheel drive and has been great…… Great vehicle that has served us well thus far and would surely replace with another one day…. -
I tow a 2014 jeep GC summit. It is so easy to tow. The new version of the grand Cherokee that was introduced 2013 is heads and shoulders above previous versions. I am very happy with it.

We purchased a 2015 Grand Cherokee to replace our Jeep Liberty this year. Rigged up with a Blue Ox baseplate, BrakeMaster and RVI battery charger, all works great! Great tow vehicle!

Thx everyone … seems like the vehicle to pursue, which I might add, is much easier to find than a well-maintained used Prevost 🙂
