  • Rebuiding my BlueOx

Posted by Tom on December 10, 2014 at 11:52 am

When it comes to towbars, I don’t think anything can touch a BlueOx for ease connecting, etc. But…after a few years they can get a bit like a rag doll–a bit loosy-goosey. I called BlueOx about sending mine back for a rebuild. I knew they had done that in years past, but I wasn’t sure whether they still offered that service. It is available for $95. and, of course, there’s still shipping, etc.

I mentioned we were going to Florida after Christmas and wanted to be sure the towbar would be back by then…he asked whether we would be at the Tampa Super Show. I hadn’t really thought about going, but he mentioned that there is a BlueOx tent there. If I take my tow bar to them they will rebuild it while we browse the show….for $35!

Y’all may have already known that, but it sounded like a deal to me and I thought I’d share…ty

    BTom,

You may want to rethink the show thing. It will be a long way from where ever you’re parked to hike that towbar through a few thousand people, standing in the middle of the cramped isles with their poodle’s in baby carriages or waiting for the free doughnut that might surface. And, you better not be in the way when the free crap starts or the start up of the booth with the Shamwah towel that guarantee’s to take off love bugs and can be used in the shower for dog grooming.

You probably guessed I hate those overblown events..

At the FMCA Eastern Area Rally in Asheville this fall, I saw a BlueOx tech working on a members coach in the parking area. I stopped to ask him a question and he suggested that he look at my towbar. In a few minutes we were in his golf cart speeding to my bus. The tech replaced all spacers, washers, nuts, and bolts. He removed the rubber boots then cleaned and lubed the sliding arms, putting the boots back in place with new UV resistant zip ties. He then decided that I needed a new “ball and socket” assembly, pulling one out of the spare parts carried on his cart. Total rebuild for $35.

If you go to the Super Show in Tampa,go the first day, dry camp in the parking lot,and HURRY to the BlueOx booth to make a reservation as they used to drive to your coach. Also note the FMCA Southeast rally is in Sarasota in Feb and will be MUCH less crowded.

AND the BlueOx tech told me that our old BlueOx tow bars are worth $150 as trade in on anew unit if purchased direct from BlueOx.

Tom….you are so, so, so correct about shows…you are preaching to the choir. I was a little country RV dealer and have worked alot of shows. If I had a nickel for every time I heard: “I’m planning to retire in ___ years and we want to start shopping for our RV”, I’d have a much newer coach.

Anyway, I’ve signed in for dealer day…should be a little more peaceful. ty

At an FMCA rally we had ours rebuilt for $35. Everything Ray mentioned above was done. I remember signing up, paying the $35, ID your site and that’s it.

My question at the booth was about the ball and socket problem which they replaced new.

Roadmaster did the same for me at FMCA in Perry, GA this year. They had a truck and tents setup in a field by itself so it was easier to put the bar in the back of the Jeep and drive over.

For the last several years when I would go to Quartzsite, AZ, to the BIG TENT event, Blue Ox would check and rebuild for $25. The last time I was there was 2013. It’s worth every bit of $35.

    I’m due for another check-up.
