2008 Hummer H3 questions
Is anyone
towing a 2008 Hummer H3? I would appreciate insights on which wiring kit you
used and the install location of the plug.

We towed an ’06 Hummer H3 for a year or so… we bought the BlueOx base plate and used the BlueOx Aventa II 10K Lb tow bar…
Never a problem and easy set up.Jerry Winchester also tows or towed an H3 Hummer… if he sees this he will chime in I am sure.

Ah, the legend of the square tires! I think I’ve seen pictures somewhere.
I’ve used blue ox before and planned to on this application as well. This time I wanted to save the 10000 by installing the base plate and wiring kit myself. The base plate looks easy enough, but I’m having trouble deciding on the wiring. Did you use one that required adding bulbs or splicing into your existing wiring and where did you chose to mount the electrical plug? The front end is so nice with a silver color bumper that I hate to mount a big plug in sight or cut the rock guard.

This applies to my H2 (the one with round tires for now). I spliced into the wiring for the lighting. The “base plate” is bolted to the frame where the tow hooks were so the opening in the bumper was enough to locate not only the receptacle for the wiring harness plug, but I also mounted the air fitting that I used for the air line to the braking system.
I made no effort to hide the connections because they were recessed enough in the bumper opening to be almost not noticeable. I have towed a number of vehicles and to make the wiring connection point less or not visible I have located them behind a grille, beneath a bumper, or behind the bumper, but pointing down so they were not visible, but flush with the bottom of the bumper.
I don’t believe on the H2 I used any diodes. I just spliced into the wiring. On a previous Grand Cherokee I had to use diodes but that was not a problem. The diodes prevented back feeding of electric that caused lights I did not want on to be on.

I’ll dig around the front end and see what works best for a mounting
location. We’re parked at Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort and there’s a couple H3
toads hanging around. Maybe I’ll take a peek at what they did. Blue ox
recommends the light bulb wiring kit, but after looking at it and hearing from
a few folks, I prefer the diodes.Thanks all for
