Yes, the generator is designed to operate while driving. Is your generator enclosed in a hush box?

It’s my understanding that’s the only way they are designed to run for any amount of time. By opening the door your change the airflow and they can overheat. I could be wrong but I think I’m correct.

The rep for the owner said it was okay to run generator on road but to open door when parked.
Of course he wasn’t owner but a close friend as owner passed this spring.

If you do not have owner’s manuals or access to them from Royale or Prevost I would strongly urge you to access them and start reading. Almost every question you have ever had will be answered in those manuals.
Taking advice from non-Prevost owners is not the smartest way to learn your coach.

it would also be much louder and a nuisance to people around you for you to be parked with the generator bay open. .

have the owners manual and it doesn’t even acknowledge a generator in the bus

Prevost doesn’t install the gen, the converter does.

Just a thought, since this site is for sharing info, how about those Royal owner jumping in and helping out a new guy.

I have an 05 Royale and I did get the original “Royale” manual. I don’t think it will help much because of the age difference. I do not remember anything about having to open the bay door while ruuning the generator. In fact, while boondocking near Quartzsite, AZ, we ran our generator all night with the bay door closed. I do clean the filter in the bay door.

Any one with maintenance of 17.5 powertech in 1998 would be appreciated

The coach is designed to run the generator with the bay door closed. If this produces overheating issue then: is the generator really overheating, check with IR temp gun. If it is then: verify generator radiator is not obsructed, you have good air flow. Coolant level is good, then you will get into possible partially plugged radiator, TSTAT, etc…

My bus has a PowerTech 17.5kw gen
