  • Stolen hub cap

Posted by Archived on May 27, 2014 at 11:16 pm

I assume that’s what happened. Just went to change the genny oil today and noticed that one is gone from my tag. It’s the one like a saucer, says (said) “Liberty”. Any hope of finding a replacement, even if it is a generic, non-Liberty one?

It could be that it fell off? Hopefully, it won’t be hard to replace or be expensive.

Possible, I guess, but it was held on by two screws. I suspect it was a nefarious doing.

No doubt it won’t be cheap, but finding it will be an effort.

Can you post a picture of a remaining one? I do not think mine are the same but I just took two off.

Somewhere between Vancouver, BC and Coburg Or, I lost one on my drive axle and it too was bolted on. I spent the night at Marathon. The next morning I showed the parts manager a picture of my tophat and he said, “like this”, reaching to a nearby shelf. I said, “yup, perfect match, how much”. He said, “no charge”! I love you Marathon! 🙂

Here’s a pic, Davy. Problem is, they are no longer made. If I buy the new one I will likely have to buy a new bracket for it, and buy two sets so that they match. 🙁

Here’s a company that makes similar axle covers. If you have to buy a complete set.

If that’s a hub-piloted wheel, Alcoa makes replacements (don’t match) that are easy on and off one piece.

Thanks, Ken. I found that site too, but don’t know which ones I would have to order.

The TKane’s look good. And now, I feel quite a bit more secure with them than with the original Liberty’s. You see, this morning I had the guy parked next to me at the Wally World point out that one of the remaining drive axle hub covers was loose. Further inspection showed that the bracket that it screws into had come apart and half of it was gone. What was left was hanging loose and beat the hell out of the rim. Coincidentally, I am carrying a full set of spares, so will fix that when I get to Maine.

    Carl…

How much did the new set cost you?

Also did your cooktop come in in time for your trip?

Safe travels and you all have a fantastic time !!

    Cheers,

I only replaced the steer and tag axles and they were about $500 with shipping. Because of the problems I noted above I will probably replace the other axle when it’s time for new tires. I now feel more secure with the brackets that are held on under the lugs.

The stove seems to be at the post office and Natalie hopes to pick up tomorrow. I think that she won’t be able to send to me in Maine, so it will have to wait until I return to install. 🙁

Thank you for the well wishes!
