Refridgerator
I have a 2001 H345 marathon with an Amana refrigerator that needs to be replaced. Does anyone know what make/model will work? Also will I have to take the windshield out? Thanks

I would go with Sumsong it runs on 1.5 Amp other make use about 7 to 10 amp. I am not sure about this but I would Try remove the doors of the frig maybe that would work. Counter deep frig is not as deep as a standard frig I would also try that.

We have experienced the Amana blues when ours stopped working. After I pulled it out of the slot the
appliance repair man wanted $6-700 to replace the failed compressor. After a second opinion from my buddy’s appliance repair guy a $190 relay
had me back in business. He carried several new relay packs on his truck.
That relay I was told is famous in the repair industry for failure with not so honest appliance repair guy’s telling
customers of failed compressors as the fix.
Relay fails as it is attached near compressor and heat cooks the plastic frame.
That replaced relay was in 2010

You will have to remove the doors and the fridge is counter depth. I did it for my XL and the windshield had to come out, no big deal, but the XLII windshield is big and heavy. What I did was take accurate measurements and then matched up the fridge that fit the best in order to eliminate any trim issues. There are lots of different fridges out there that will work. Mine is also an Amana, same year as yours and parts are available. I just did the defrost timer, heater and thermostat and it was easy.
Do you know what’s wrong with yours?

Our H3 did not require the windshield be removed (but XLs are a different story). This was done in late June. We replaced the refrigerator, an Amana, with a double door and (lower) freezer drawer KitchenAid. There have been (new) Asian brands that have current class action suits against them; very modern/techno but evidently troublesome, accused of knowingly hiding/ignoring the issue(s).
Anyway, I thought of having the Amana repaired (not cooling), but the white coated wire baskets had long ago begun to rust through after this amount of time, and the width and shelving convenience were inadequate. The new one is stainless, and should match virtually any decor (my opinion only).
My two cents again.

It is leaking freon every 90 days and cannot find leak. Mr. Brewer what model # is your kitchen aid?

Although it is badged KitchenAid, it is made by Whirlpool.
It is a good looking, convenient, counter depth refrigerator that went into the same place that the Amana was with (apparently) no difficulty. We did have an immediate issue with a suddenly non-working ice/water dispenser. First fix was the (water/filter/bypass valve) delivery system (which I have a bit of an issue with ) that is not covered after 30 days (we had left immediately on a 2 month trip); that cost me money. It still did not work reliably after the initial pseudo-warranty repair. I called again to the contract service company and a board was replaced, no charge, and now everything appears good so far. Beautiful refrigerator, nice features, wife loves it, more room, better lighting, has user selected controls such as open door alarm, over temperature alarm (freezer, refrigerator), child lock-out on the dispenser, quick (full blast) cool for a fixed period of time, etc..
And, it is on the expensive side, but,…..

We have an H also and we replaced it with a cabinet depth 3 door model and it went in thru the door way (with the doors removed) We did however remove the handrail on the second flight of steps we had about a half inch on both sides. New box was quite light just a bit awkward. installed doors in living room and slid it right in the hole.. Less than an hour all said and done.

Just food for thought….
I noticed a lot of Prevost conversions offer Sub-Zero units. We have had trouble with our home Sub-Zero units that I am very hesitant to buy another. Currently, at home, I have a wine cooler unit with two refrigeration drawers underneath that will not keep the temp at 37 degrees, the wine cooler stays steady at 48.
It goes through stages of going up to the mid 40’s. The wine cooler above it is fine. I’ve had this unit worked on twice already. The Sub-Zero fridge next to it also needed repair (fan went out) and I also have a Sub-zero in another kitchen that the coils in the back had to be replaced.
Now, these units are about 12 yrs. old now (look like brand new) and we only use this house 6-8 months a year on and off so it’s not like there opened a closed a lot (no kids). They just sit there, no vibration, etc.
On the other hand, my Jenn Air in the motorhome has bounced all across America in 6.5 yrs. and 65,000 miles with not one issue.
