Michelin Appearance – Normal or Problematic
Since haviing new Michelins installed in June, the tires are progressivley getting worse in their appearance. I have scrubbed them many times with soap and water, but the streaks seem to be getting worse. I’ve contacted the dealer who will look at them as well as Michelin with no response as of yet.
Anybody have any clue as to what the cause may be? The 365’s were purchased at a different time than the 315’s and were all mounted on new wheels.

I have no idea as to why this is going on with Tom’s coach but what is clear from looking at the tires is that the lube used by the folks that mounted them on the rim (two different companies) is spreading (was spreading) around the rubber as the tires rolled.
The discoloration seems to rub off because I got it on my fingers.
I am reluctant.to use chemicals on tires, especially petro chemicals, but maybe Simple Green sprayed on and then brushed in and hosed off immediately might clean the offending stuff from the tires.

Looks to me like that tire has water in it like we did with orchard tractors to give them better traction. They always spit a bit around the rim…. Tire installation lubricant, just soapy water isn’t it? That should disappear in a few miles….not months. And Jon, there is some kind of trick tire dressing (other than my used car lot sample above) that I have heard folks raving about, supposed to have UV protection in it, personally do not no any more….may be called 303?

Tom you probably are polishing those wheels too much and its running down to the tires LOL . Time for a new bus.

Since this is Tom’s last bus I have been kind of in the loop on this one and there is no water in the wheels or tires.
Tom has not used any product on the tires except soapy water and elbow grease.
He just put the tires on, so there are two different companies involved, all tires show the same issue, and they look lousy. Tom needs sympathy at this point, not urgings to buy his next last bus. I do admit however the need for clean black tires is important in the presentation to potential buyers. Maybe the solution is a couple of Krylon rattle cans of semi-gloss black.

I found a bottle of that 303 Protectant in my inventory. Tried it, work’s good…may want to go down to an O’Reilly’s and pick a spray bottle up, mine shows 12oz for 12.99. Kind of Armor All on steroids plus it say’s it has an SPF 40 Sunblock in it…go figure. Guess that means you can always smear it on your face and arms if it doesn’t work out…. I think it may solve yur problem, I smeared it on an old crummy handtruck tire and looks like new.

It’s the polishing compound. I know how you like to keep your LAST bus looking.
If you had CHROME wheels like I do there wouldn’t be aproblem.
Jon, the Kryoln high gloss black surely would last longer than Armorall, don’t you think.

Paint won’t adhere to rubber that moves, like tires. That Dupont 7 used car lot detailers goo will work for awhile; there is a flex agent in it but, within 90 days, the flex agent evaporates out it will comes off with a thumb over the tip of a garden hose sprayed at lo pressure. Call it the Earl Scheib look, commonly found on taxi cabs……..

Man you got to stay on the paved roads. Those tires look like you have been doing off roading on farm tours. Prevost’s don’t plow very well!
Maybe you have been staying at places where the sheep raise theirs legs and let it fly.

It only has to last long enough to get out of the driveway. Not kidding about this…old brake fluid (which will not harm rubber) when wiped on tires and the excess wiped off looks good and lasts a while.

I can just smell used cars running through Jon’s veins…….. The brake fluid can also be new without any risk to the tires, the DOT 5 Stuff will leave purple streaks, but you knew that! Next topic, Sears Guaranteed motor overhaul tablets and creative use of sawdust…….
