  • 1937 Packard Motorhome

George P asked me to post this, never knew this existed..

    1937 Packard Motor Home

Photos taken at Sycamore State Park near Malibu, CA. It was the only one built. The couple standing by it are the owners.

He bought it for $16,000 about 10 months ago. It had been in a garage for many many years.

He polished and waxed it and put on a clear coat of paint.

    Did some minor engine work.

He has been offered $300,000 and didn’t take it.

Looks like a non-slide model. You putting a bid in?

If we ever wanted a benchmark to see how far we have come, we only need to look at that motor home.

Anyone else realize how spoiled we have become?

What is the apparatus hanging on the side with the red light in it? I know some older cars would have a turning signal arm that would pop out. The pics don’t show one on the passenger side so I was just wondering.

    Thanks,

My family was in the funeral business, Grandpa Karth started out in 1906.

My Dad talked about the FH having a “1937 Henney hearse”. I’ve come to realize over the years that it was probably on a Packard chassis.

I wonder if “Henney” made hearses (and probably ambulances) and did a few motorhomes along the way.

    Mark,

    I think it’s a swamp cooler, 1930’s air conditioning.

That is way cool… I probably would have taken the $300,000 though.

Tom, it could be a swamp cooler but I’ve never seen one shaped like that. I belong to an old car club as I have a 50 yr. old car myself.

The swamp coolers are usually more bullet shaped so air can enter the front. There are no vents on the one from the ’37 Packard….. but, maybe it was an early one.
