  • What are the available driver alert safety product

What are the available driver alert for preventing drowsiness –safety products that are available in an aftermarket type situation

I have a limousine that I installed a mobile eye 2 in it and it sets off an alert if you veer off the lane or you’re getting too close to the vehicle in front of you. In addition I asked my driver to wear the small device on his ear that if he tilts his head down to far a Mercury switch sets off a beeping alarm

Thank you in advance for your kind responses this forum is fantastic and I want to share my gratitude for the efforts the previous community has put into responding to my questions

    Thank you Dr Gary

From your posts it is likely you will not have a newer model coach which likely has a number of safety features, not necessarily to alert of drowsiness, but to have cruise control with adaptive braking. As you describe the coach use, it is a commercial vehicle and the driver has to comply with the commercial rules for allowable driving times which should provide for plenty of sleep.

You likely need aftermarket devices to alert for driver drowsiness. One of my dash cams has an alert for lane drift or change, plus it has an alert for following too close. The close following alert is always going off because drivers pull back into my lane leaving me little stopping distance, and it is constantly alerting to lane drift because it sees long streaks in the pavement as lane markings when they could be skid marks from locked brakes, joints in the pavement going in the direction of travel, etc. Both alerts are ignored and become background noise that I just never pay attention to.

Doc, I do a lot of driving and would never trust a so called alert system in a 48k lb coach. The highways have many rest stops along them so do as we do and just pull over for a power nap .
