Lubricant change
Posted by rafael on January 4, 2021 at 9:46 amWhat would be the best oil and filter selection for a Detroit series 60 and Allison trans? I was thinking of amsoil and transynd what filters for the Detroit do you folks recommend

Engine manufacturer recommends regular oil changes with a 15W-40 diesel engine oil (e.g. Delo 400 or Delvac). That is all that is needed. Truckers get up to 1 million miles just doing that. Any name brand filter will do.
Allison recommends Transynd or equivalent TES-295 oils. It allows you to extend transmission oil changes to four years.

For approved Detroit engine oils look on the label for specification: DFS 93K215(API CH-4), DFS 93K214(API CI-4PLUS), DFS 93K218(API CJ-4), or DFS 93K222(API CK-4) for your 2001 series 60.
The one Amsoil product that I know is approved is DEO 5w40.
