Emergency device/switch that if for some/any reason your computer kills your bus, say at a overheat or oil pressure issue and bus dies, push switch/toggle and you have a few more seconds to move it off the road or to a safer place. Used mine once when coolant went below sensor level in coolant tank after a Prevost fluid antifreeze change out and it killed motor. I was stopped when my engine died at roadside park and let me move it out of the way. . It overrides computer to give you a chance to save your coach and butt.

    PS,

Just use it to get it off the road. Then find problem.

Thanks’ I did not know that, is that happen when red engine light comes on? Yellow light won’t shut off engine?

Seems like red light came on had a overheat issue and low fluid level as I added antifreeze and water to tank and it’s run for about 2 or 3 years. Also another time had Prevost Houston put new belts on in a Level 3 service and the Turkeys didn’t put valve back to pressue side and noticed it as I was trucking through Houston heading back to the ranchito. Heat was rising at cruising speed, slow down and it/temp would go back down. On these 2 strokes you can sure kill them with heat. Turned valve and air cylinders put the pressure back on belts. It didn’t get hot enough to kill engine that time just check engine light came on. I think some of these computers have a mind of there on.

They told me just to move the coach on the override button a short distance, off the road.

The yellow light is a “check engine” light and it will not cause a shutdown. Some check engine lights cannot be ignored because they might be an indication of something like a derating of the engine, but when one appears you are not in danger of an imminent shutdown.

A red “stop engine” light is the real deal. Depending on model year there are three or four causes for an engine shutdown. On all coaches low coolant level, high coolant temp, and low oil pressure will cause a shut down, and on later coaches high oil temp will also cause a shut down.

You cannot ignore the SEL because within a short period of time you will not have a running engine. If you are in the fast lane in bumper to bumper traffic and the SEL comes on you are going to have to do whatever it takes to get to the shoulder or some safe place because you are about to shut down. In a situation as I described with being in the fast lane in heavy traffic the red switch will buy you some additional time before shut down.

But understand the conditions that call for a shut down are serious ones, and if you keep pressing the red switch to keep the coach going you run a serious risk of losing the engine, which is sure to cost as much money as Tom carries in his wallet. Big bucks.

Regardless of which light you get on your coach the best thing you can do is immediately pull to the shoulder, or even further off the lanes of traffic and determine what is really going on. It could be as simple as a sensor giving bad information, or as serious as a complete loss of coolant. You just need to know what is going on before driving further.

With the engine off and key on, that switch will also flash diagnostic trouble codes on ours.
