Windshield Install?
I took my passenger side windshield out to install new refer, front rubber seals were old so I ordered 2 new seals and new bead lock after Installing refer I removed driver side windshield cleaned up everything and found a local glass guy that said No Problem! so he broke 1 side and other side did not go in to well, I heard new rubber is tight? seems like rubber is to thick between windshield and body and the one that went in not so good either? any thoughts ?

Bummer, let me know what Prevost gets $ for a windshield please. I have a rock crack that’s growing on our passenger side.

Put in the old rubber or else use a belt sander on the glass to go around it and make it fit….Or just install them…as I said before it is extremely tight…It changes a windshield install from minutes to hours…If you use belt sander you can practice on broke windshield.

The funny thing about Jeff’s post… If you were putting in a toilet Jeff would send the same message! Just watch out for that belt sander, it’s a little binding if you know what I mean?
It’s no fun for you Art I’m sure of that and I hope everything works out. I’m curious if you leave it as it is, does it add any wind noise at speed?

New windshield Prevost part#291429 $2300 Hey Jeff since the new rubber is a little larger that old because of different manufacture of rubber why don’t I just sand the metal down just a little? the old windshield had black polyurethane around the end of the glass I had to remove while cleaning so a little off the metal if I had to replace one again I would not have to sand new glass??
I watched a few U-Tube videos on installing windshields and they would hit windshield with their hands a few times and it seated in, but they weren’t hitting nearly as hard as this guy he hurt his hand, did not seam rite to me. If the fit is too tight between window and metal the rubber is going roll over like it’s doing.

Jeff is not kidding and I have no clue why Prevost has not made one of their vendors resolve the problem.
Maybe if enough of their technicians complain you might actually get a gasket and windshield that will actually fit as they should, but just be aware if this age old problem still exists you are not going to have an easy job putting the windshield back in with new gaskets.
As a side note, there should be no additional sealer used when a windshield is installed correctly. The key appears to be to avoid pulling on the rubber insert as it is being installed into the groove in the gasket. If it is stretched, it is also smaller in cross section, and thus will not fit tightly in the groove and make a complete seal between the gasket and window frame or gasket and glass.
Under normal circumstances with lubricant on the gasket and glass and an insertion tool for the rubber insert it is not unusual for the glass to go in and out in 20 minutes. We used to teach folks at rallies how to replace glass and even those that had no experience at all were doing their first replacement in 30 to 45 minutes. But not with new gaskets.
