  • I spent the morning with Jon, can you say Ahhhhh!!

Posted by Harry on May 2, 2017 at 8:00 pm

Not knowing where you’re reading this tome, I feel it necessary to give you every opportunity to be seated or at least at some semblance of rest. What I have to tell you is not something to be taken easily so remember I’ve given you warning. I’ll give you a little time to collect yourself before imparting the news!

There was a coach in Lenoir City, TN that was not too far from Jon and he asked, begged me actually, to come along? No doubt to learn as much as he could from me so he could come back to the forum and repeat what I said as his own.

Fortunately for me I had already spoken to Jim Lane the day before. For anyone not knowing Jim, he is the foremost authority on the Beaver Prevost Bus! As an aside I found it fascinating that the very coach I’m picking up on Thursday is the very same floor plan Jim had! That’s pretty wild if you ask me, how great it was for Jim to go through the pictures with me and knew exactly where everything was and what it did. Extremely fortunate for me that I can tell you for sure!

I did learn one thing from Jon that I did not know and that is before taking a Prevost bus on a test drive you have to rotate the air in the tires. It took me a couple hours but come on, that bicycle pump is no easy thing!

I hope you guys are settled in because here we go… Jon was there with his black flip-phone and it was working!!! Now you tell me, are you happy you sat down or what? I have another thing almost equally astounding! If you’ve gotten up by all means sit back down! In my conversation with Jim, he said “in the ear of the Beaver Coach, the Beaver Coach was the best conversion on the market! Here I am sitting with Jon in a restaurant with a hot cup of coffee when Jon said “I agree”! After almost scalding myself and coughing and hacking I finely said “what”? And again I hear him say loud enough to be heard at the next table “I agree”! Wow, Liberty Coach may have to shut their doors. Jon, the grand – exalted – imperial – omnipotent – stomper of all that is Liberty Coach says “I agree”! I will not say I saw pigs fly, but I heard the squealing and you can quote me on that!

Yes indeed, I can truly say that meeting Jon was a truly underwhelming experience and my wife said she really doesn’t want me going out to play with him anymore! Jon and I were standing in the coach with the dealer and the dealer asked how long we’ve known each other and Jon says “we just met today but I’ve never liked him”! Maybe that will give you a little idea of how the morning went!

Look, I shouldn’t be telling stories out of school, but when Jon came to meet me he was driving his red Corvette. He said on the way there he heard this thumpady-thump-thump, thumpady-thump-thump, thumpady-thump-thump! He says “do you know what it was? And I said Jon I don’t have a clue, what was it? He said “I had a flat tire”! Then he tells me he got out on the side of the road and changed it, gets back in the car and starts off and again hears thumpady-thump-thump, thumpady-thump-thump, thumpady-thump-thump! He says “do you know what it was”? I said good heavens Jon did you another flat? And he says, “No, I changed the wrong tire”!

In truth, something that disturbs me greatly as it pertains to Jon, he has been an incredible mentor and helpful beyond all forms of reason. Having him with me to check out this coach was invaluable to me. And getting to meet him and spend a few hours together was indeed a, honor. You have my gratitude sir! Frankly I thought getting down on one knee and kissing his ring was a little much.

Cute Harry, poor Jon, he and “Rodney.”, eh? We will be looking forward to your comedic sequel.

It is becoming clear that PC needs a better screening process before we send someone a password.

If all goes according to plan Harry will become a happy but poor Prevost owner. He will know the way from Murphy NC to Vonore TN by heart and get to experience the ETLC oil changes that cost almost as much as our national debt.

He will find out the grin he is about to get on his face when he gets behind the wheel for the first time takes several weeks to go away. He will find when he asks for advice that we really like to offer answers that make him spend money, and that we make up half of what we tell him.

It is obvious Harry and Jim Lane were baiting me when he mentioned Jim said the coach Harry is about to buy was the best coach of its day. But Jim is correct and anyone that has ever seen one of the Beaver Prevost conversions will agree. The coach is outstanding and has a wood interior made by skilled craftsman, something no longer available.

    Good luck Harry.

BTW, Harry has no clue about how rare the occasion of our meeting was. I not only had my flip phone on me, it was actually turned on.

Wow Jon, that was almost reasonable and even handed!

I have no doubt that grin you mentioned will be there many a day and I’m sure looking forward to being behind the wheel of my very own coach! I thank you one and all for your help, guidance and patience as I was learning about the great Prevost bus! My journey begins and I’m happy to say, with my friends!

Harry, I like you, never mind Jon. He gets cranky from time to time.

    Harry,

OK fess up, what did you have to do to get him to turn on his flip phone? It just doesn’t happen, so either you paid him, bought his lunch or agreed to wash and wax his bus. The last time I asked him to turn the damn thing on, he reached for it, flipped it open and farted. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but we were in line at the bank to withdraw some of the excess cash we make off PC and the dues money.

You hit it right Tom, it was breakfast!

You know how you tell someone you’re buying and the person you said it to says they’ll order everything on the menu and smiles? Well Jon didn’t even smile… He just orders ham, ram, lamb, spam, buffalo, beef and bear! With a pheasant to go, how foul!

Look Jon is a good man, a little country, but a good man. I personally believe all this about Jon’s black flip phone is way over broad! 🙂

Having been to Murphy (in a car), does the route to Vonore include US129? Just kidding; I wouldn’t want to try that in a bus!!

Last time I was through Maggie Valley I passed an MCI pulled over with hot brakes.

When Harry heads to Vonore he indeed will be using the “Dragon”. It is hard to beat the kind of excitement he will enjoy when we winds his way around a few hundred curves with every one of them having the potential to allow him to meet a fast car or motorcycle coming around a steep curve in his lane.

Every time he uses those 11 miles they will be the longest 11 miles he has ever driven.
