Door Seal
I need a new door seal for my 2000 XLV Marathon. I am wondering if this is a DIY project or would I be better off to take it to a shop the next time I need service. If anyone has experience installing a door seal I would appreciate recommendations and comments.

Are you sure you need a door seal? We thought we needed one because a few inches of the 20-year-old seal on our bus was folded over like something had been caught in the door for a long time and we thought if we replaced it we’d have less wind noise. Your seal might be a different style than what’s on a 1996 vintage but our DIY approach taught us to be cautious about things that seem so simple. First, removal of the old seal was more difficult and time-consuming than we imagined. Then we discovered that the replacement from Prevost was the wrong size (we have an 86″ tall interior height; they sent 83″ seal). After they sent the right size and we put it on, we found that the door wouldn’t close properly because the new seal was thicker than the original (original style no longer made). Anyway it can be a DIY project. We finally found some rubber hatch seal material at a local marine supply store. Prevost Parts was very willing to work with us on the problem but ultimately had no seal material that would work for us. Linda

Thanks for the information, Linda. Seems that some things are not as simple as it appears. My problem is about 15″ of the gasket material came “unglued” and is pinched along the door between the hinges when the door is closed. I tried to reglue it but that only worked for a short time. I think I will try one more time to reattach that section of the gasket and see if that works. Do you have any recommendations as to the appropiate adhesive?
