New guy here and having fun learning (no bus yet)
Several months ago when I began the arduous journey of researching the ownership of a Prevost conversion I happened upon the PC web site and, as reflected in scores of other posts, became instantly amazed with the collective knowledge po 4 cossessed by other members.
I will be retiring in May after 30 plus years in law enforcement–most of it in the Black Hills of South Dakota but also several years training police officers in Kosovo and Iraq. I’ve put together my wish list for a coach and look forward to finding the right one for me.
I’ve only been in a few Prevost buses—there simply are not many in South Dakota. So, I’ve relied on prowling campgrounds in my area (Elk Horn Ridge who is a sponsor is only 15 miles from where I live) and looking at coaches or engaging owners in conversation. I admit to using interstate crossovers more than once while working to catch up to a passing bus to see who the converter was, what model is was, etc. Don’t panic if you’re in the Sturgis or Deadwood area and a cruiser seems to be taking a double look at your bus as it’s probably only me! I know I need to attend a seminar or rally to look at more so I can better decide what I want to put myself into.
As a LEO I have always enjoyed training others. In fact, the bulk of my nearly 5 years in Kosovo and Iraq was mostly spend training new officers. Like most, I learn best by seeing or doing. To that end I have probably read at least 50% of the forum posts on PC, as well as some other sites and resources. The learning curve is huge but I’m enjoying the ride. I developed a digital “flashcard” system to augment my learning. I was finding that with so much to absorb that I would quite quickly forget what I had learned the day before so the flashcards came in handy for keeping information fresh. To add to that, I’m not mechanical by nature so the slope became even more slippery.
Recently I began migrating the flashcards to the online test/quiz generator Testmoz (Testmoz.com). I have amassed approximately 3500 flashcards and feel I’m just getting started as I’ve only transferred 334 questions in 9 arbitrary categories. Some of you new to Prevost conversions might find my learning method useful and I invite you to take the quiz in its present form which can be found at the end of this boring post. I have found that quizzes like these inspire curiosity as much as testing knowledge so a particular question might cause one to do further research. The old salts on this site (you know who you are) will likely giggle at the ease they fly through the quizzes and I ask that not be held against me. I plead guilty to plagiarism and won’t apologize for it.
I’ve only used a small percentage of the power of Testmoz for these quizzes and you can research the site yourself if you want see what all it is capable of (references, etc). When following the link below you can use your real name or a pseudonym to sign in. It does allow me to track scores, etc. The site is safe (no malware or keystroke loggers, etc) and won’t give me a means to get into your fat wallets. Please let me know if you think this method of learning is at least a start to my journey. Keep in mind it contains less than 10% of my flashcards to date…

Pat, We all wish you luck in your search. As you undoubtedly know there is likely a Prevost available for any size pocketbook.
When you set your budget you have made the most important decision you will make in the process of buying a Prevost. Decide your wants (things you think you would like to have) and needs (things that if lacking are deal breakers), and sharpen your focus to the range of model years, converters and chassis models that will fit. Consider that as sharpening your aim.
If you have read a lot of posts you know we love to spend other people’s money so we will offer lots of free advice. Just keep in mind free advice is worth every penny you pay for it.
At one time we were participants in a rally at Elk Ridge and a very wonderful session was provided by the SD commercial state police officers who weighed our coaches and then gave a safety presentation.

yep I’m new also i have been looking for some time now and reading all the stuff i can. I always look to see what year members coaches are then thought how many owners have older coaches? I mean like 1999 on back. I really like a 40 footer but it seems like there isn’t a lot out there. So if anybody wants to chime in on your older coaches i will be reading with high hopes. Thanks
