XL versus XLV versus XLVII
First off is there a difference between say a 2000 XL and a 2000 XLII
What is an XLV….LOL I think I have seen that also.
Next, I know the XL’s are pretty much bullet proof and easier maintenance….at least I think. I also seem to remember reading they were also noiser and not as comfortable. Maybe I read that wrong.
But if it is true, how much noiser and harsher driving are they in lamen terms.
I just really like the looks of some of the 98-2000 buses, but I really like the H3s…lol

The XL compared to the XLII is a little less height. From a users perspective the XLII is a little quieter. I cannot tell the difference in ride or handling. The XL with the 12.7 L engine was the most economical coach produced and it was not unusual to get between 7.5 and 8 MPG consistently. With the XL you could get long range fuel which was 298 gallons which added to the economy because you could easily go 1800 miles and only needed toi buy fuel where it was the least expensive.
Skin damage was easy to repair if you had a big pop rivet gun. Windshields were cheap and easy to replace. All the tires were the same size and more readily available than the 365 tires. The dash lacked the good lighting of the XLII dash, but it was far simpler to service. Most fittings were compression fittings so you did not have to deal with aging push in fittings.
The XLII however has double pane glass so you don’t feel cold spilling down your neck from the windows on the side when you sit on the sofa. The tall front windshield combined with the larger side windows makes the coach feel larger and more open.
The skins on the XLII have been an issue on some coaches but it is likely Prevost has repaired those by now. If not no XLII should be purchased without a detailed skin inspection by Prevost.
All things being equal I would want the XL, but the smooth side panels of the XLII and the clean lines are far better looking.

I like the smothness of the XLII, but something about the XL’s just look nice. But I like the H3 also…lol

I thought that the XLII’s didn’t come until 2002. (I might be wrong about that)
I believe that when you see an “XLV” that means it’s a 45′ model vs. a 40′ model.
One thing I’ll say about the XLII is that when we bought ours, there was a 2014 X3 sitting RIGHT NEXT to our bus. And honestly I couldn’t tell a difference. Maybe I could now… but as a beginner I couldn’t. To me, and this is all very subjective, the XL’s look vintage. the XLII’s look more modern. But – that is a matter of taste and what you’re into.
The H3’s don’t have the “Tour Bus” look. They have a driving area that is lower than the living area. Which we weren’t into. The storage areas are much taller (which would be nice) and when you see one next to an XLII it looks much bigger. Although, everyone says it isn’t much bigger… but it sure looks it!

I posted this before but here is my 2006 H3-45 next to my brother in law’s 98 XLV…he calls them Big Daddy & Junior.

My 01 Liberty XLII was a 2000 shell, so 01 was the first Conversion year for the XLII.
