Disappearing Post
Posted by Jacky on April 1, 2016 at 12:40 pmI posted a question and received one reply which I in turn replyed to. When I sign on today I don’t see the post anywhere. Did I do something wrong? Any ideas why it would mysteriously disappear?

Jacky,
Do you know what topic you posted under or specifically when you posted? I know I did not delete any posts and I doubt if Tom did because we usually discuss things before we do something like that. The only thing we do without discussing with one another is to move a post that might be under the wrong heading.

Jacky I was the one who answered your post about leaving air in bags when parked for a while or to empty the air out
I also wondered where it went I could not find it the next day either

Between the two clues above I found the thread was #5409. I thiought I could find that thread, but when I started looking I found that thread is gone.
I have no clue why or where it went. Only the originator of a thread, Tom or I can delete one. If Jacky did not, and I did not we have to wait for Tom to jump in here. Unlikely it was erased by Tom, but we will see what he says.
From the admin side of things it is unlikely it was erased by accident because we have to jump through some hoops to erase a thread or post.
We are approaching 50,000 posts and we have over 5400 threads so this site is active to say the least. Not easy to find some stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I will repost the original question again. Glad PeterC saw the same thing, that way I know I’m not totally crazy.

The post was in the Emergency Topic and could not be opened or responded. Don’t know what caused it, I couldn’t read it and took it off, knowing whoever posted it would re-post. It was about the same time as our Web guy rebooted the system, so it might have got caught up in that action.

Mystery solved.
A note to folks posting……….Make sure a new thread has a place to go. When creating a new thread put the category you want it to appear in in the appropriate box. If it has no category is shows up as a blank and either Tom or I have to find it in the wilderness and guess at where it might belong to get it to show up.

Been there, done that! Perhaps you could get some tee shirts printed up? 🙂

The other night I came onto the main forums page and noticed a ghost forum section above the emergency road side section. the ghost section had no title, so you couldn’t really get into it to see the post.
Interesting to know how that was done. Jon/Tom have the web developer default new topics that are created at the index of the forums to general maybe? This way users dont need to select from the drop-down and if they miss it, you dont end up with a orphaned post. Or dont allow new topics to be created from the main forum page as anywhere else new topics are created from end up defaulting to the forum section you are currently in.

Charles, as mentioned above, if you create a new thread but don’t give it a topic, like “General Discussions” from the main forum page it ends up on the forum page as you said. If Tom or I catches it, we can place it somewhere, and if it turns out inappropriate for where we have it, we can relocate it to a better spot.
We should have the web guru block it from being posted, but then Tom and I wouldn’t have anything to do.
