Possibility of a new Forum topic
Posted by John on June 25, 2020 at 12:11 pmI’ve known for quite awhile that there are those of amongst us with an interest in aviation, and from discussions within the community lately I’m wondering if a new topic having to do with aviation interests would be of benefit to the group.
I talked with Jon about it and he said that we could do it and that maybe I should put it before the group. Well, here it is. If there are those of us out there who would like to give it a try, here’s the opportunity. The floor would be open to anything on the subject that anyone would consider to be of interest or have a question about.
What do you think?

I think it’s a great idea. Then maybe you people would quit hijacking my towing thread with pictures of airplanes. Wait… that was me.

In the past 1st plane was ’56 172, 2nd was a ’46 Bonanza V and last was a 310D with boots and alcohol props, O2. Looks like it could be fun. 3.5k hours Multi-Engine-Instrument.

I am down with that. I am a helicopter pilot and I own a flight school with airplanes and helicopters. Chuck

I think this forum should remain focused on Prevost. I am also a pilot but use other forums to discuss aviation topics. I joined PC for the vast information on Prevosts and as a new owner have enjoyed and learned a great deal. I do not want to wade through aviation topics when I an looking for information on Prevost items. Remain true to the original intent and utilize other forums for aviation.
Respectfully,
Thomas

Actually VIP aircraft and buying and owning a Prevost are similar. Its just at a differnt level but same concepts. They both require the same effort to put the interior and systems in that make them millions of dollars. In Boeing B737 aircraft with VIP interior 80X the cost of a new Prevost. And when you start operating them ..the insurance, maintenance, and operation cost are the same things the aircraft owner weighs out.
Having the Prevost as my mobile office that I roll up on the aircraft that I management is a convenience. For me the interior items are not important. It the items that make the bus roll down the road that are.

Shortly after we joined PC someone asked for a show of hands of members that were pilots, I jumped at the chance to respond and show a picture of my pride and joy, a nice little Cherokee 235. (How do you tell if there is a pilot in the room? Don’t worry he’ll tell ya) Well, many others chimed in and after pics of Malibus, PC 12’s, C90’s and the occasional CJ came up, I considered deleting my post.
We sold the plane about 6 months after buying the first bus, I had only flown it an hour and a half in that time span. Being away from home in the bus 5 to 6 months of the year was not going to be conducive for keeping current and proficient.

Well, Here we are.
Just as I was about to withdraw the suggestion because of it possibly being not in line with the scope of the organization and not wanting to offend, Tom creates the forum topic and I think it’s great. Along these lines I don’t see any problem in creating other topics which may be of interest to some, but not all of us. As an example, antique and classic cars or sailboats or steam trains to name a few.
I think that it would be great to show photos of our prized toys whether it be a Learjet or an Ercoupe, which incidentally I have a great respect for and would love to own one. Just think about it. An airplane that makes it possible for a double amputee to experience and enjoy solo flight at sunup or maybe sundown and even to use for transportation and it was designed in the1940s.
This place in the forums, as I envision it, could also be a place that we could post items in the news on the subject that might be somewhat obscure and of interest to others.
As I see it, logging in on the website is sort of like walking into a restaurant. There are usually several different areas. There’s a dining room, there’s a bar, and there are restrooms. You pick where you want to go. If you don’t want a drink and you don’t need to pee and only want to eat, then the dining room is the place for you and when you sit down at your table, chances are that you won’t even know the other places even exist.
once again, just my two cents worth and no offense intended.

I think I speak for Tom also on this, we have no objection to off topic threads or posts or subject categories as long as they are not going to head into controversy.
We likely will never allow hot button discussions on subjects like politics, gun control, abortion, etc. Talking about planes, cars, or boats seem like topics a lot of PC members would like to participate in. We often have seen photos posted of some neat stuff like interesting cars so why not aviation.
However, and I am giving fair warning here………be very careful in the aviation topic to be sure we don’t get into bitter battles over full flap or partial flap landings or low wing versus high wing.

Do you mean that saying things like helicopters don’t fly. They just scare the ground away, might not be exceptable?

Let’s just put it this way. When I lived in Jamestown NY my hangar partner and I had a beautiful 60 X 80 hangar with just our two planes in it. He had an Arrow and I had my P210.
Before long there was a framed plaque that said Cessnas were so ugly, they did not fly, the earth repelled them. It isn’t hard to imagine the tone of a lot of our conversations.

He took the jesting pretty well, except on days with heavy rain. I casually stepped under my wing to sample the fuel, then removed my jacket and folded it before getting in. In the meantime he was soaked to the skin, crawling under the wing to sample fuel and when he decided to enter the plane, he would open the door and get to sit on a wet seat.
We flew a lot together, mostly to abuse one another while practicing approaches and other air work. He was a great stick and he could never get over how my plane would glide, and I never could get over how his plane would drop like a brick.
The ball busting never ended. He finally compromised. He got rid of the Arrow and replaced it with a Pitts.
