Girrard Sensor broken(2)
Posted by Dorel on June 9, 2015 at 11:57 amHello, looking to replace couple sensor cups, will this purchased from Davis, pn7905L work? What is the size of the 2000 Girrard shaft ? i cannot get on the roof to measure yet…ordered the ladder last week, just trying to be proactive. Thx

From a old posting of mine a year ago:
I found this cup assembly works perfectly.
Davis Large Wind Cups For Vantage Pro2 (7905L), from Weathershack.com
The hole is a bit small and will need to be reamed out to accommodate the Girard shaft. I did that in two steps on a drill press in order to keep the hole in perfect center and alignment. Final drill size was 11/64!
Remove the setscrew before reaming the hole.
Total cost including shipping; $174 and 15 minutes of my time.

Thanks Tom., good info. My two sensors in the front were intact when I left from Oregon to Michigan. By the time I got home one was missing two cups, the second one lost one cup during Memorial weekend. Very fragile or too old? I noticed that the rear I have one with cups and one with paddle. Talking to a tech at Marathon he mentioned that these can break whiile driving for exp on two lanes when another truck travels from opposite direction due to different air flow directions. If this is true(?) will explain the chg to paddle style, more compact / rigid design. Not fun going on the roof changing these after each trip. I will take a closer look while on the roof. Thx

I don’t have to get on the roof, they’re close enough to the side of the bus to work with just a ladder. It’s any easy fix.

Thanks Tom…good to know, I can see them close to the awning, but not sure what / how far, etc.

Lost rear Girard sensors this weekend…is there something more robust we can use?

That’s a strange setup, mine are mounted close to the roof and don’t stick up so high.

This Link is a Girard replacement:

Sorry I could not seem to be able to make the photos smaller.

At least 8″ above roof, 2″ above awnings, unbelievable engineering or lack off

Save your money, they’re about 60 bucks. It’s the old style cups instead of the newer style vane, but works the same.
