Roof – Seal and Paint – Hy-Tech Bus Kote Product
Our 2000 Marathon roof start showing some wear due to vintage, there was no peeling or leaks, but part of the “zero out” we decided to seal and paint using Bus Kote product. I attached product description(from manufacturer site) and couple photos(before/after).

ceramic, waterproof coating designed specifically for Buses and recreational
vehicles. This high build rubber like coating waterproofs, insulates,
soundproofs, beautifies and protects with a ceramic shield that expands and

Bus-Kote offers superior mildew resistance and ultraviolet ray reflectivity.Originally designed as an insulating, reflective coating for school districts
to use on the roofs of school buses to lower the interior bus temperature. This

I was thinking of buying flex seal “as seen on TV”, but this looks better even at twice the price.

Did some checking before completed the project, here is the spec / material cost from Hytech:
Bus Kote Coverage: 125-150 square feet per gallon.
Available in 1 Gal, 5 Gal, and 55 Gal drums
$39.50 Per Gallon…5 Gallon$197.50It takes, approx 4 Gal to complete the job for our 45ft, approx $ 200 with shipping.
Then the fun starts, get the roof prepped(wash, sand, wash, dry, tape around the edges and roof accesories, detail seal / paint around roof accesories, apply 3 coats(drying time between coats aprox 2 hrs pending outside temps), remove tape….done….
So, you can do all these to get the roof sealed / painted or based on the material cost and work involved you can hire this done for $ 750.
Since I was not confortable working on the roof at the time due for medical restrictions at the time, I hired Superior Coach Detailing, to get it done while relaxing at Hearthside Grove, Petoskey ,Mi.
Cost to complete $ 750 includes all the above material and labor, about 8 hrs to complete(coats drying time)
Superior Coach Detailing is based in FL winter months and Petoskey during summer months.

Dorel, it sounds like you purchased the material? Or did they obtain it in order to do your roof treatment? Just curious. Linda

Linda, no, I did not buy the material, I was just looking at how much will cost me to buy the material and my labor, versus cost to hire this work thru someone else.Looking at the sealer cost, plus masking tape, plastic sheeting to cover the sides, paint / sealer applicant supplies, approx $275.
Then my time to prep the roof, tape around the roof/accessories/cover coach sides with plastic for accidental spells, chemical clean / treat the entire roof to be sealed, finally apply sealer 3 coats, then after sealer is dried reverse the above prep work…at the time I considered that $475 for labor is a fair price, while enjoying time with my family…job got done…
They have the sealer, tools and manpower to complete the job in 8 hrs(weather permitting)

Thanks for the clarification… I think we’ll try to position ourselves in the Naples or Petosky area in 2018. Would have it done this year, but right now isn’t convenient to get to Naples and our summer will be out west rather than in the Petosky area. Linda

Linda…I have Superior coming down Monday, March 27 to Aztec in Margate to do my roof. They will also be in the area this Wednesday, March 15. Again, $750 for a 45′ coach all materials and labor included. They don’t charge for travel to the area. Eric’s email address is emann6572@gmail.com.

Spoke to Eric yesterday (he mentioned Aztec but didn’t drop any names, LOL) and we talked about cost, travel, etc. Seems like a real nice guy. I’ll be calling him next week to work out a date for him to come over to Hollywood. Linda

What is prompting these applications? Is this something all of us should consider for an older Prevost?

Dick, can’t say whether all should consider application of such a product but in our case the 20-year old roof is experiencing some oxidation and chalky streaks on the coach after a rain. So it needs fresh paint, and the Bus Kote product seems to offer more than ordinary paint. Linda

Some folks scrub the roof with scouring power and apply mop-n-glo. It lasts about 6 months before you need to reapply, but the second time on you do not need to scrub. A lot less expensive to get rid of white stripes. The Bus KOte does provide some additional benefits,

Superior Coach Detailing came to us in Hollywood on the 17th and applied the Bus Kote roof treatment as described above. It came out very nice, and as the temperatures are rising here (mid-80s today) we are noticing an improvement in the interior temperature when we walk into the bus (with no a/c running).
