Travel Phoenix to Las Vegas with Trailer
I need some help. I know the route very well on Highway 93 from Phoenix to Las Vegas. I know there are some fairly good grades up and down between Wickenburg to Wikieup. I am traveling in a Chev. Express 1500 with a trailer and am apprehensive about the grades up and down.
I am thinking of traveling west on Interstate10 to Quartside and heading north to an on 95 to Las Vegas. I think the road is fairly flat but have never traveled that route before. Anyone have any information for me traveling 95 through parts of Calif. and AZ to Las Vegas.

I have been that route it has some rolling small hills nothing major!

Enclosed or open trailer? How much payload in van and trailer.
Don’t race up the hills. Take it easy. Don’t be afraid to take your time going down the hills. Downshift early.
You probably don’t have a HD rear end with full floating axles. If you Race up the hills with a heavy weight and heavy tongue weight, you’ll overheat the bearings and spin the races (ask me how I know that). Make sure there is synthetic lube in the rear end.

If you have never done so, you should download Google Earth. Plan a trip from point A to point B and after the route is setup, RIGHT click on some part of the highlighted route. You will then click on Elevation Profile and it will show you exactly what the upcoming route has to offer. Very cool tool!

We we are in Las Vegas and thanks to all the comments and assistance. Very much appreciated. Trip went very well. For all of you with big rigs and hate steep grades and headed between Las Vegas and Phoenix try taking Highway 93. From Phoenix take Interstate 10 west to Quartzside. and then 93 north to just outside of Las Vegas and intersect with 95. Two lane yes, but there are only rolling hills and the highest hill is at Searchlight Nevada at 3800 feet. The grade was steady and lacked abrupt climbs or descents. A wonderful road and from Palm Gardens Nevada to just Las Vegas it is four lane.
As a side, if you ever get to Quartzside Arizona you must see the most unusual collection of Motorhomes, Rv’s, 5th wheels, and getto trailers you have ever seen. Thousands or rigs and a menagerie of unusual characters. Worth the stop and worth the time if you are in the area. They are parked all over the desert on public lands and in clusters of parks. Quartzside is on the Arizona/Calif. border and the fuel is cheaper than Calif. by a dollar a gallon.
One thing. Traveling through Calif. all firearms must be unloaded, in locked cases and in the cargo area under the Coach. Calif. is very tough on firearms even as you transverse the State. Mine were locked and in the rear of the Van outside of access from the drivers seat.
Also there is an agriculture inspection from Az. to Calif. They are mostly checking for bugs I think. They inspect all U-Hauls without exception.

My 95 year old mother has a town house in McDonald Ranch near Green Valley Casino. She has been coming out from Wisconsin for 25 years to winter. She is getting frail and I wanted to get her back one last time so we came up from Scottsdale yesterday to open the place up and we brought up some household things and some different furniture that is why we needed the trailer.
We plan to head back to AZ just before the Superbowl and she will head back to Wisconsin.
Las Vegas is a terrific place to watch the Superbowl, and the Final 4 in basketball. I hope you all have a terrific time I will be thinking good thoughts about your Chiefs We in Green Bay really miss Andy he was Brett Favre’s coach and made him into a hall of famer. Best Wishes to all Michael
