Band Bus Fire
Posted by Eric on January 25, 2017 at 10:12 amAnother
fire!! Very sad, but no deaths, thank
God. I hope we can all learn from this. Have several fire extinguishers, and know how
to use them. Also, have a fire
evacuation plan for when you are driving and sleeping. My only evac from the bedroom is a slider window,
tight fit, long drop.Tim replied 9 years, 7 months ago 4 Members · 8 Replies -

Every time I hear or read about a fire in a Prevost bus or conversion I want to hear the cause.
The news reports never offer any information as to the cause of the fires, but I wonder if they are associated with the emissions equipment that has been added to the coaches.

I have to admit that I might be a little like Jon … I also want to know the cause.
Possibly a call to the fire chief of the fire department that responded to the bus fire might provide some insight into what caused the fire.

From the video can you determine the model year or converter of the bus?

According to my sources, the bus was owned by the band, so calling up the leasing company and asking my contact at a particular company isn’t a option. It will eventually come out, it will just take longer to find out.

An idea for those interested, I had a fire suppression system installed on my XLII. The system works by having a dry chem extinguisher mounted in the engine compartment with two remote spray heads above the engine. There is a loop of tubing that is kept under pressure, when it melts it activates the suppression system. The name of the company that manufactures the system is Fire Trace. Do a YouTube search for Fire Trace and look for the green bus in the UK.

I understand diesel engine fires while th engine is running due to the high fuel pressures and heat. But on this ne it appears it was stopped. I don’t know if engine was idleing or not, but if shut down a atomized fuel fire wouldn’t exist. Dripping diesel on a hot engine would be hard pressed to ignite however if a very recent shut down i could see dripping diesel on a regen canif it was a newer smog engine.

Our brand is called the Kidde Dual Spectrum. Hope that I never have to pull that tab and push that big red button.

Well it’s good no one got hurt but!!!!!
The bus is at least 10 years old, a EGR motor maybe but pre DPF and DEF. Just so happens to catch fire in a rest area in Kansas and no one but the driver on board going to Minnesota.
The driver saves the only guitar on board and himself and they just luckily swapped trailers a week earlier.
Then they say a few days later the band owned the bus, not a wet lease. It had 450k on it.
Two sides on every coin. You can look at it like what is a 10 year old tour bus approaching 500k miles worth.
For those guys it’s better off dead.
