Tire Pressure Equalizers
What are your opinions about using tire pressure equalizers on the drive axle duals?

I see them all the times on some trucks Larry, makes me nervous seeing those hoses spinning around, but they must work. I have no experience with them, maybe someone here does.

Tom, my bus has them but on one side, the SS hose has worn a place on the wheel. Never had them before on busses or motorhomes, in a past business, I had 10-12 tandem axle trucks and drilling rigs, none had these equalizers and just did not have any tire problems. Seriously thinking about taking these off.

Let me see if I understand the concept………..
Instead of one tire getting low pressure and destroying itself, you get two with low pressure that need to be replaced.
I see the concept of perhaps airing up both tires in one spot it that is how the plumbing is arranged, but the downside to the convenience is the loss of two tires instead of one.

What works for me is a portable dual-filler hose I
made. It’s a simple ‘Y’ from one hose with a gauge and squeeze handle to control the air flow. Both tires fill to the exact same pressure. The
pressure between the two tires equalizes when the hose is connected to the two
Schrader valves. When done, disconnect
and pack away till the next time. The only time both tires are connected together is when you are checking or filling them.I’ll post a photo of the unit I made for filling dual tires at
the same time, as soon as I get it unpacked.
It’s somewhere in a box waiting to be loaded on the coach we are picking
up tomorrow. -
Here’s my contraption for airing-up the dual tires. Note the lock-on for the inner tire Schrader valve. It makes the process much easier!
The inflator control valve is an old unit from one of the Wanderlodges of past. The dial gauge is very accurate.
The lock-on valve and the dial gauge came from Amazon (if my memory is correct). The rest of the parts are from various old tire inflator units and Lowes for the brass joint.

previous owner had them installed on my drives. I have had no problems. Not sure if I will keep them when I have the tires replaced in a year or so.

Over 8years ago had a Dynasty with them. The drive tires slowly lost air. Removed them no more air loss.
