Seems like I am full of it, today … 🙂
Anyways, this one is good for almost everyone and works on the iPhone and, I do believe on Android, too.
Are you annoyed by receiving frequent junk calls, offering all sorts of really good deals?
Well, then you should download the free app by the name of TRUECALLER.
This is a data base of confirmed spam caller numbers. The data base is being supported by crowd sourced information, i.e. When you receive a spam call, you use the app to report the number for the benefit of everyone else. The next time, you receive a call from that number, your phone will display a screen which will clearly show you that that number has been identified as spam.
Then you hang-up.

This may be extreme, but we now leave our cell phones off unless we are expecting a call. Those that know me realize I rarely had it on, or even with me previously, but now the chances I can be reached on one of our cell phones is even more remote. I have no voice mail on any of the cell phones so when they are turned off the only one that knows I got a call is Verizon and they aren’t telling me.
Our land line was a reliable way of reaching us at one time, but now it is also getting hard to reach us. If your caller ID is something funky like “800 Service”, “caller unknown”, or something intended to mask your identity or phone number we likely will pick up and hang up. You probably will not even get a “hello”. If we do say hello, say hello back, real fast. We interpret dead air as a robo call and we will hang up faster than a speeding bullet.
Our telemarketing calls have gotten so prevalent we have started ignoring the ring of the telephone on our land line. If we are eating or watching the news or something else we don’t want disturbed we will just let it ring and the land line will take a message. No message, no return call.
It is sad we have no control anymore over who will call us. The “Do Not Call” list is a cruel joke.
I do make an effort to never hang up on someone who is calling with a problem or questions relating to their coach. But if you do call, and we hang up, call back instantly. I am sorry we are being rude to legitimate callers, but until our phones stop getting calls from telemarketers we have no intention of giving them the time of day.

I stated “Then you hang-up”.
What I should have said is, that you do not need to answer because you already know it is a spam call and since these callers never ever leave a voicemail message, you know you were right to ignore that call.

We have 3 cell phones. The one in the bus is hard wired to a group of 4 phones located through the bus.
In all our years of the use of cell phones it was only several years ago that we started getting marketing calls on the cell phone lines. It was when the bus was not used for about a week that I realized while sitting in the garage the phone had 9 missed calls, all from unknown numbers. So now when I put the bus away I unplug the phone.
After about three years of unplugging the phone I forgot after the last trip and it was in the garage about 2 months before I realized it was still plugged in. Not a single missed call. Somehow the robo calls and telemarketers can tell which phones are active because after a while they must have just stopped wasting their time on a phone that wasn’t even ringing. I also have only gotten one marketing call on my personal cell which is rarely on. My wife has never gotten one.
My point is those making these unwanted calls have to be in cahoots with the phone companies. Somehow they know which phone numbers are valid, which are not, which will receive calls, etc. The key to stopping the unwanted phone calls is not apps or devices to screen calls but getting the phone company itself to provide some means of simply blocking the calls. I would like to see legislation that mandates phone companies provide something as simple as punching in a two or three digit number immediately after receiving an unwanted call that forever blocks that party from getting through. We already have something similar in that when we dial 69 we get the number of the previous caller.
Just imagine how great that would be to block numbers. No more calls from bill collectors, your kids asking for money, or from Tom asking where your check for the dues is.

Jon, if I am not mistaking the iphone has that feature now. Afer you recieve a call from an unwanted caller you can block that number from ever being able to ring your phone. It is a couple of easy key strokes.

That is a great feature, and if in fact that feature is available why can’t it be a universal feature on all phones and phone systems?
Just based on the number of calls we get at home, and how many we used to get on unlisted cell phones the potential number of calls to block would seem endless, but well worth the effort. Some of the worst calls are the robo calls that seem to happen daily. If we could block just a couple of them we probably would cut the annoying calls in half.

You see what’s going on here folks, Jon actually thinks the Call Blocker (that most of us have) would be a good thing, but his problem is how to make that work without turning on his Jitterbug.

Each time I get unwanted call I put phone down by computer and play a song by Paul Thorn on Utube. Song is “its a good day to whup somebody’s ass” it has the desired effect!

Is that the favorite song of the robots that start out the call by saying “Welcome seniors……….” or the robo calls that shout “This is an important call……….”
