  • Scumbag Update

Posted by needtocamp on March 26, 2014 at 12:25 pm

Many of you may remember a while back I posted that keeping bad people off the site was a full time job. At the time we were getting bogus registrations from China (mostly), eastern Europe and a few other locations at the rate of 3 bad guys for every 1 legitimate member.

Tom and I viewed every registration and then looked up the IP address to validate the registration. Some were questionable despite a US IP address so I would Google the street address and would delete those that appeared to make no sense like a vacant lot in a bad location, or the middle of the wilderness in Idaho. Some were businesses likely to try to promote themselves on the forum selling items of questionable value such as adult toys (not kidding).

Two got by us and did manage to make posts. We deleted the posts and the member.

I am sure some legitimate members got rejected because they had a phony address, or they had a foreign IP address although they lived here in the US and actually had a coach. Before rejecting questionable memberships I would email the applicant to see if they were real. Some were. Most never responded.

But for whatever reason we have turned the corner. Now we have about 9 or 10 real registrations for every one that is bogus. Wouldn’t it be nice if we never got any phony registrations.

The reason this is significant is because our membership has grown by leaps and bounds. We have a major milestone coming up very soon and when it arrives Tom and I are going to brag about it. Our growth has been fantastic and the quality of our members, their posts, their expertise, and their enthusiasm for Prevost conversions is unmatched. We all have a lot to be proud of.

Tom and Jon are you the guys that post under “admin” or is that someone else? If you why use the “admin” title.

    Greg,

That’s Jon and I, it happens once in awhile. If we’re logged in as Jon or Truk and we then go to our admin section, sometimes when we come back to the forum it changes our login to admin instead of our normal names. It’s not a big deal with us so we don’t see any point in getting it corrrected from our developer.

So if you see admin, it’s one of us…

I posted the first one in this thread and as Tom said I was working in the Admin section so even if I am logged in as Jon, once I go to the Admin part of the site it automatically logs me in as Admin. I try to check it, but as Tom says on some posts it doesn’t matter so we leave it.

Since we purchased our bus last year, this site has been invaluable. As we’ve prepared to hit the road full time (which by the way, today is the day we move into the bus full time!) I have picked up so many hints. I’m sure once my teaching contract is done and we’re truly on the road, I’ll be pestering everyone with questions. You are doing a terrific job, and as a web progammer on the side, I can only imagine the amount of work you guys put into this site! Nicely done! 🙂

Cathey and John , I feel the same way about the site. It has been a tremendous help on my old Prevost.

    PS,

Don’t praise those guys too much are they will start charging. I’ve heard they had to enlarge the doors on there coaches so there heads would fit through.

    Hee Hee!

I now understand how my wife and I were able to walk into Tom & Jon’s buses side by side. I knew my door felt way narrower.

Dang Jon, you raised the fees? Double of nothing is nothing. Sounds like a heck of a deal. Thanks more than you boys know.

    PS,

    Do you guys accept donations?

No. We do not accept donations.

Everybody has to understand you have to thank our advertisers for making all this happen. It is their ad money that pays our operational expenses and keeps what we do here going. Like all of you we are Prevost enthusiasts so how can talking to other enthusiasts on the forum and at rallies be work?

Rallies have turned out to be work so you know how we responded to that. Now we are on the hunt for more benefits we can provide thanks to our ever increasing numbers. The best donations anyone can make will be to share information, help other members who have questions, write articles, and report on anything that our members should be aware of such as good and bad service providers, good places to visit, and places where Tom can get a cheap supply of Depends.

I know he likes to hide it but believe me ,Tom can afford to buy all the depends he needs. He buys cheap beer to make up for it

Minding my own business and the trash starts flying. I just sent Jon an e-mail about the dues increase and I suggested triple increases. I’ve also changed Red’s password, so he’s toast.
